Plan Your Degree

An accurate degree plan is critical when planning out your four years of college. Your academic advisor will help you keep your degree plan aligned with the numerous state of Florida regulations pertaining to degree requirements so you can graduate on-time.

Degree Planning Information

Each student will have a degree plan specific to their degree/major created to assist them with planning for what to take each semester.

  • Most undergraduate degree programs require a minimum of 120 hours of coursework to complete the degree. If you want to graduate in a four-year timeframe, you will need to complete 30 hours of coursework between fall, spring, and summer each academic year.
    • Students must complete 9 credits of summer hours.
    • Full-time standing requires at least 12 credits taken per semester.
  • You will need to be aware of your degree program requirements (hours needed to graduate, prerequisites for courses, etc).
    • Your Degree Works Audit, found in MyUWF, is an individualized degree plan specifically geared toward your graduation requirements.
    • If you have questions or concerns about your plan of study, please contact your advisor.
  • Changing your major and/or taking courses not recommended by your advisor can lead to Excess Hour surcharges and/or potential Financial Aid and/or Veteran Affairs repayments.
    • Contact your advisor if you are considering changing your major or taking classes not discussed between you and your advisor.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

For current students:

If you want to change majors, you need to schedule an appointment with the assigned first year advisor for the new program you are interested in pursuing. The advisor will review the program requirements with you. Once you are sure you want to change majors, the academic advisor for your new program will initiate the electronic form to start the process. If you are unsure which advisor to meet with, you can visit our "Meet the Staff" page to see which advisor to schedule an appointment with. Please note these major changes will not take effect until the following semester.

For incoming students:

If you are changing majors, please complete the Application Major Change Form and notify your advisor before scheduling your appointment. Your schedule may need to be adjusted, and you may be required to meet with a different advisor to review your schedule. The electronic form to initiate the new program must be signed before the drop/add week ends.*

*If you’ve decided to change majors after your initial appointment with your advisor, you’ll need to schedule an appointment with the new first year advisor.

Choosing a double major can provide you with greater employment opportunities following graduation. However, each major will require that you meet the individual course requirements of both, so you will need to work closely with your academic advisor.

If you would like to inquire if a double major is the best opportunity for you, please meet with your advisor to discuss the requirements.

During the first week, also known as the Drop/Add period:

  • During the first week of the semester, you will have the ability to drop or add courses through your MyUWF. We strongly advise you to contact your First Year Advisor before making any changes to your schedule.
  • After the first week of classes, you won't be able to add any additional Part of Term 1 courses and will not be able to make any schedule adjustments unless you withdraw.
*Courses that begin/end in different parts of the term may have different add/drop periods. Speak with your advisor to learn more about Part of Term classes.

After the first week:

  • With prior permission from your assigned Academic Advisor, you will be able to withdraw from individual courses up until a specific date in the semester identified on the Academic Calendar.
  • You will need to contact your advisor to discuss the impacts of withdrawing before you will be permitted to make any changes
