| Hardware And Software For Disabled Persons | The Pace Library works hard to provide an inclusive environment for all individuals. If you need accommodations due to a disability while in the library, please let us know so we can help you directly. |
| Document & Image Enlarger | The Pace and Emerald Coast libraries have a digital enlarger to assist students with visual impairments. This device will enlarge and display on-screen any item under the camera (documents, textbooks, checkbooks, electronics, etc.). Several additional high-contrast modes may be helpful for students with some forms of color vision deficiency. This machine also can scan a document or page of text and read it aloud via text-to-speech software. |
| Portable High Definition Magnifier | The Pace Library has two Optelec Compact 7 HD magnifiers available at the Circulation Desk for checkout. This device is ideal for enlarging any type of material anywhere in the library (it's portable, so you can take it to where the materials you are trying to view are located). |
| Study Carrels | The library has ADA-compliant Study Carrels available for checkout. You may also contact the Circulation department by phone at 850.474.2414. |
| Scientific Calculator | The library has purchased a SciPlus-2200 Scientific Calculator to assist patrons with low vision. It can perform scientific, statistical, and trigonometric calculations and fractions. This calculator can be checked out from the Circulation Desk at the Pace Library. |
| Request ADA Books From HathiTrust | Users who are registered with the UWF Student Accessibility Resources office may request ADA-compliant text materials. |
| Course Reserves | All online (scanned) Course Reserves readings have been processed using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology to make them compatible with Screen Reading software. |
| Braille Conversion Software & Printer | The Pace Library has one workstation on the first floor with software that can convert existing documents (e.g., Microsoft Word or PDF) into Braille (which can then be embossed onto appropriate paper using our braille printer). For more information about braille conversions please contact Frederic Barry at fbarry@uwf.edu or via phone at 850.857.6157. This workstation also features an extra-large monitor for patrons with vision impairments and a joystick-style mouse for those individuals with motor-control impairments. |
| Text-to-speech And Magnification Software | ALL library workstations and laptops have the Kurzweil 3000 text-to-speech and ZoomText screen magnification software pre-installed. |
| Transportation Needs | If students with temporary impairments have transportation needs relating to their condition, they are encouraged to use the campus Trolley, which meets the federal requirements for accessibility. | Parking Needs | UWF provides accessible parking on campus. Students in need of accessible parking must have a state-issued parking placard as well as an appropriate University parking permit. |
UWF Campus Services and Programs
Educational Testing Services: This link provides information on standardized testing (GRE, TOEFL, Praxis, etc.) for students with disabilities wishing to enter or graduate from UWF. Information, including requirements, documentation standards, procedures, and applications, can also be found on this site.
Tutoring Services: A variety of free tutoring services are available to UWF students. While Tutoring & Learning Resources (Building 21, Room 120) supports most general education courses offered at UWF, some departments offer additional options for their courses and additional information can be found on the general tutoring page.
Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS): CAPS offers counseling and therapy to help students address how to manage, cope and grow with the stress associated with school and life. The primary goal of counseling is to help students develop the personal awareness and skills necessary to overcome problems and to develop in ways that will allow them to take advantage of the educational opportunities at the university.
ADA Programs: ADA Programs is responsible for ensuring campus-wide compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), Amendment Act of 2008 (ADAAA), and the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and as such, directly responds to faculty, staff, and public requests for reasonable accommodations, and indirectly to student requests. We would like to hear from you if you have concerns about any access barriers. We encourage you to submit information to our office to allow for proper assessment and identification of reasonable solutions. Please complete and submit the ADA Programs Accessibility/Barrier Identification Form.
Substitution or Modification of Requirements for Graduation by Students with Disabilities: The University can provide reasonable substitution or modification for graduation requirements for any eligible student with a disability. Appropriate documentation must be provided to indicate that the student's failure to meet the requirement is related to the disability so long as the accommodation does not constitute a fundamental alteration in the nature of the academic program. A student requesting an academic accommodation or adjustment, such as a course substitution or modification of an undergraduate graduation requirement based on a disability, must register with the SAR.
