Mission/Vision

To provide a multi-dimensional program for recruiting and retaining highly qualified STEM majors to become middle and secondary teachers and expand our local learning community to support and mentor UWF-Teach candidates and program completers. Services/Projects

Exploring Inquiry Teaching Course: Developed for students who wish to explore teaching careers in math or science, this course engages participants in authentic experiences observing, designing, and delivering inquiry-based math and/or science lessons for older children and young adolescent learners in formal and informal educational settings.

STEM Master Mentor: Science and math educators trained to facilitate content-focused coaching during field experience courses.

Noyce Scholarship Program

UWF-Teach majors have the opportunity to become Robert Noyce Scholars and receive funding for the cost of attending UWF during their junior and senior years. Apply for the UWF-Teach Noyce Scholarship.

Scholarship Requirements:

  • Have (and maintain) a minimum 2.75 GPA.
  • Must be enrolled in a UWF-Teach major as a junior or senior at the time of award.
  • Must pass the General Knowledge FTCE in order to apply.
  • Must have completed Exploring Inquiry Teaching (EDG2041) or an equivalent course with a minimum grade of C-.
  • Submit two letters of recommendation (at least one letter should be from an HMCSE faculty member; the second letter may be from a School of Education or HMCSE faculty/staff member).
  • Scholarship recipients must be U.S. citizens or nationals, or permanent resident aliens.

Degrees Offered

The UWF-Teach B.A. in Biology degree includes general education coursework, major courses and education courses. Graduation requirements include a cumulative GPA of 2.5 and a passing score on all Florida Teacher Certification Examinations (FTCE) by department deadlines in order to be admitted to student teaching. The FTCE tests are as follows: 1. General Knowledge, 2. Professional Knowledge, and 3. Biology 6-12.

The courses required for degree completion are listed in the UWF Undergraduate Course Catalog.

The UWF-Teach B.A. in Chemistry degree includes general education coursework, major courses and education courses. Graduation requirements include a cumulative GPA of 2.5 and a passing score on all Florida Teacher Certification Examinations (FTCE) by department deadlines in order to be admitted to student teaching. The FTCE tests are as follows: 1. General Knowledge, 2. Professional knowledge, and 3. Chemistry 6-12.

The UWF-Teach B.A. in Earth and Space Science degree includes general education coursework, major courses and education courses. UWF-Teach is CAEP Accredited

The UWF-Teach program is accredited based on the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) Standards through Spring 2025. CAEP is the only CHEA recognized national accreditor for educator preparation.
