Equity & Diversity

Our Mission

The mission of the Office of Equity & Diversity at the University of West Florida is to foster a climate of inclusive excellence in today’s global society. The office encourages greater understanding of self and others for students, faculty, staff and the greater community through academic and cultural programming, as well as support services. The office promotes the principles of awareness, acceptance and respect as a way of life at The University of West Florida.

The University’s efforts to embody Awareness, Acceptance and Respect manifest itself in four action-oriented ways: Get Empowered; Get Educated; Get Involved; and Get Help. These pages contain the specifics of how we are creating a climate that is inclusive for all faculty, staff and students. We know that this work is never-ending and this website will be updated as UWF matures in its efforts.

At the University of West Florida we accept, value and celebrate the unique characteristics of each member of our community as well as the commonalities we share. As an educational institution we strive for inclusive excellence and want all members of our community to feel welcome and supported.

The President’s Council on Diversity and Inclusion worked with the Chief Diversity Officer to write the University's second Diversity Plan 2018 – 2022. The plan, a living document, identifies five overarching goals that the UWF campus community will work to achieve over the course of the five-year time period.
