Office of Community Engagement
The Office of Community Engagement (OCE) strengthens and celebrates collaborations between the University of West Florida and the larger communities that UWF serves.
Such collaboration is evident in the partnership and sharing of University knowledge and resources with those of the public and private sectors to enrich scholarship, research, and creative activity; enhance curriculum, teaching and learning; prepare educated engaged citizens; strengthen democratic values and civic responsibility; address critical societal issues; and contribute to the public good. The purpose of these collaborations is for the mutually beneficial exchange of knowledge and resources in a context of partnership and reciprocity.
At UWF we have defined and formally adopted the following categories of community engagement that successfully embrace our full commitment.
- Curricular Engagement
- Community Partnerships
- Service & Citizenship
- Institutional Commitment & Enrichment Initiatives
In 2015 UWF was selected to receive the prestigious elective Carnegie Community Engagement Classification, an honor designated to 361 institutions nationwide by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. It is in recognition of our successful institutional focus on community engagement.
