Protect the Blue and Green with a COVID-19 Vaccine

The University of West Florida strongly encourages the campus community to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. When you get vaccinated, you are helping us create a safer and healthier environment for all Argos.

Argo Nation Vaccination Day

In partnership with the Florida Department of Health, the University of West Florida is hosting Argo Nation Vaccination Day on Monday, October 4 in the University Commons from 9 a.m. to noon.

The Pfizer and Johnson and Johnson’s Janssen COVID-19 vaccines will be administered, free of charge. The Florida Department of Health will provide the second dose of Pfizer for anyone who received their first vaccine at UWF’s Argo Nation Vaccination: Game Day on September 11. The first dose of Pfizer will also be available to anyone ages 18 and older and ages 12-17 with a parent/guardian present, as well as the Pfizer booster if eligible for moderate to severely immunocompromised. Johnson and Johnson’s Janssen is available for anyone 18 and older.

Registration: Vaccines are available by appointment and will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Walk-ins will be accepted while supplies last. Please register by Friday, Oct. 1 at 5 p.m. using the Argo Nation Vaccination Day appointment calendar. Participants must bring a valid form of picture identification and a completed COVID-19 Screening and Consent form. Please review the fact sheets for Pfizer and Johnson and Johnson.

The UWF community is strongly encouraged, but not required, to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

COVID-19 Vaccine FAQs

The COVID-19 vaccine is not required at UWF but we strongly encourage our UWF community to receive the vaccine.

For more information on COVID-19 vaccinations, visit the Centers for Disease Control COVID-19 vaccination webpage.

It typically takes two weeks after vaccination for the body to build protection (immunity) against the virus that causes COVID-19. You are not fully vaccinated until two weeks after the second dose of a two-dose vaccine or two weeks after a one-dose vaccine.

None of the COVID-19 vaccines currently in development in the U.S. use the live virus that causes COVID-19.

After COVID-19 vaccination, you may have some side effects. These are normal signs that your body is building protection. The side effects from COVID-19 vaccination, such as tiredness, headache, or chills, may affect your ability to do daily activities, but they should go away in a few days. Learn more about what to expect after getting vaccinated.

If you are fully vaccinated, learn more about the new guidance for fully vaccinated people.

Yes, you should be vaccinated regardless of whether you already had COVID-19. Learn more about why getting vaccinated is a safer way to build protection than getting infected.

While there is no federal or state mandate to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, all eligible individuals are strongly encouraged to get vaccinated as soon as they are able. In addition to protecting each recipient against infection, it is essential that a large enough percent of the population receives the vaccine in order to achieve “herd immunity” to prevent continued spread of the virus causing COVID-19. We must each play our part in this process, as we have in the past with vaccines to eliminate the threat of polio, measles and other viral infections.

More information on the COVID-19 booster shot can be found at the CDC Vaccine Booster Shot page.
