Scholarships

The Department of Communication offers a wide variety of scholarships for undergraduate Communication majors.


How To Apply

Log on to My.UWF.edu. Go to "UWF Scholarship Portal." 

The UWF Scholarship Portal includes a wide array of individual scholarships including the ones listed below. 


DEADLINES for all scholarships:

  • The application deadline for scholarships to be awarded for the spring, 2020 semester is November 16, 2019. 
  • The application deadline for scholarships to be awarded for the fall, 2020 semester is June 15, 2020.

The following scholarships will pay a minimum of $250 per semester. 

NOTE: Only a limited number of small graduate scholarships/stipends are available. Please check with Rick Scott, department chair, regarding financial resources.


Scholarships

Open to all students who are majors in the Department of Communication. Students should address plans after graduation in letter of application.

Scholarships are for students who wish to pursue a career in radio, television, or film. Department chair will award scholarship based on aptitude, promise, and passion for the field. Short letter of application should focus on a student's plans after graduation.

Students must be on the UWF Forensics team.

Students must have a GPA of at least 3.0. Students must be declared in need by UWF Financial Aid Office. Preference given to students studying journalism. Short letter of application should focus on a student's journalism plans after graduation.

This scholarship is open to students pursuing the B.A. in Communication. Recipients majoring in Communication will be awarded up to $1,000 per semester. If 3.0 GPA is maintained, recipients may have the award renewed for an additional year. If the applicant enrolls in a graduate program at UWF, then the award may be renewed for the first year of the recipient's graduate program.  

Scholarships are for juniors or first-semester seniors studying any type of journalism. Short letter of application should focus on a student's journalism plans after graduation.

Students must have attended high school in Northwest Florida. Students must have a GPA of at least 3.0. Students must be studying journalism. Short letter of application should focus on a student's journalism plans after graduation.

Preference given to Air Force veterans, other service veterans, or students interested in entering the nonprofit field. Students must have a GPA of at least 2.7. In short letter of application, students should focus on military background and/or nonprofit plans after graduation.

Preference will be given to students who wish to pursue a career in radio, television, or film. However, all students in the Department of Communication are eligible to apply. Students must have demonstrated service to the Department of Communication and enthusiasm for telecommunications. 

 Awarded to student(s) majoring in Communication. The student(s) must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA. The selection of the recipient(s) will be made by the Chair of the Department of Communication in consultation with the Dean of the College of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities.
