West Campus Trails

Located on the westernmost 600 acres of campus, these diverse and challenging  Biking and Hiking Trails are enjoyed by hikers, cyclists, geocache, and equestrian enthusiasts. Trail etiquette necessitates those on foot yield to horses while cyclists yield to foot traffic and equestrians. Motorcycles and off-road vehicles are not permitted on campus trails. The UWF Cycling Club hosts orientation rides touring the 20+ miles of trails on campus. An interactive map is available.

Edward Ball Nature Trail

The Edward Ball Nature Trail is accessed behind Crosby Hall (Bldg. 10) and Bldg. 11. This half-mile boardwalk meanders through Thompson Bayou over a hardwood swamp that is home to mammals, birds, fish, and reptiles, including an occasional American alligator (Alligator mississippiensis). Foot traffic only may explore the preserve trail.

Chronolog

UWF Outdoor Adventure program is partnering with Chronolog to track environmental conditions and trends along the Edward Ball Nature Trail. By monitoring participant-provided photos and creating time-lapses with those images. Please consider participating by stopping by UWFs Chronolog station just inside the boardwalk section of the Edward Ball Nature Trail overlooking Thompsons Bayou and taking a few photos yourself.

Main Campus Trails

The heart of Main Campus has three scenic walking routes of varied distances and degrees of difficulty.

LEAD Trail
UWF LEAD Trail

LEAD Trail

Visit the new LEAD Trail on campus! The UWF Staff LEAD program members of 2014 – 2015 chose to create a LEAD trail (1.6 miles) that anyone can visit to take steps toward being a leader. In this Pensacola main campus mapped route, UWF students, faculty, staff or any visitor or member of the community can join the path of success. Take a break and go for a walk or run. See a part of campus you may not have visited yet. The trail is your outlet and the LEAD group’s gift to everyone for staying in shape physically and mentally while appreciating the beauty of our campus. The two starting points (or ending points) are located at the WUWF Radio Station and the Center for Fine and Performing Arts.

Cross Country Trails

Located opposite the Sports Complex, runners and walkers may access four  Cross Country Trails which wind through the Baars-Firestone Wildlife Sanctuary exploring sandhill, hammock and wetlands habitat. Offering varied terrain, the trails are bordered by Campus Drive and Campus Lane on two sides and are adjacent to Martin Hall and the Multipurpose Fields. Parking is available at the Sports Complex or between the Building 90 Complex and Martin Hall.

Dogs can be walked provided they are on a leash. For more details, see the UWF Animal Control Policy.
