UWF offers a traditional bachelor's degree in Nursing. Our curriculum prepares students to become clinical generalists who are leaders, managers, and life-long learners who integrate research findings into their nursing practice. The graduate is prepared to plan health care for individuals, families, and groups.


University of West Florida's Pre-Licensure BSN Program information

Our nursing program is a limited access program which means acceptance to the University does not constitute admission to the upper division Nursing Program. Please note that you will need to complete a supplemental application for the School of Nursing, according to the time lines listed for each application period.

All applicants must meet admission requirements in order to be considered. Please review all required application forms at  Pre-Licensure BSN Supplemental App Requirements  Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.

Applications and Admission Timelines 

You must apply to be admitted to UWF through the Office of Undergraduate Admission prior to applying to the Dr. D.W. McMillan BSN Nursing program.

You must submit your documents using NursingCAS.  Login and create your account then search for the University of West Florida. Please be sure to complete all the requirements as indicated.  Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. Note: You are required to submit official transcripts to NursingCAS. Please allow  two weeks for transcripts to be processed and verifed by NursingCAS.  Applicants that are not verified by NursingCAS will be considered incomplete and not be reviewed.

  1. To access the application 
  2. Core Performance Functions (PDF) Required with the supplemental application. 
  3. Hepatitis B Form 2016 (PDF) Required with the supplemental application. 
    A blood test (titer) is required to ensure the applicant has enough antibodies. If the applicant is non-reactive they must start the series before applying.
     Applicants must continue the immunization series and titer. The completed immunization series and titer is required if admitted into the program.           
  4. ATI Testing Information (sixth edition) - Required with the supplemental application. If taken at another location, you must contact ATI Testing to have your official scores sent to UWF, there is a fee. If you test at the UWF testing center your scores are automatically sent to the UWF nursing program. We DO NOT accept TEAS Version V - Allied Health. 
  5. Pre-Licensure Sample Volunteer Letter (PDF) this is not required. If you choose to complete a minimum of 60 hours as a volunteer or work in the healthcare setting in the past year, the letter(s) stating the documenting the hours are included with your supplemental application packet. All hours must be completed by the application deadline. 

Items 1-4 are to be submitted as one complete supplemental application packet online using NursingCAS. If you are also including the volunteer/work hours in healthcare, they are added to the supplemental application packet. You submit all items together at the same time.

  • All Nursing pre-requites should be completed if accepted into the program. Course work can be in-progress and if accepted will be offered conditional letter of acceptance that will depend upon the successful completion of the nursing pre-requisites course work.
  • GPA for admission is based on overall GPA (minimum to apply is 3.0 and will be based on your GPA at the time of the nursing application deadline.
  • Optional Course must be completed prior to the application deadline to be considered (see list below)
  • TEAS Exam (sixth edition) up to 3 attempts) Must make a minimum of 75.0% to apply (test must be taken between June 7, 2018 - June 6, 2019)
  • Decision notification sent August 2019

Summer 2020

Application Opens September 3, 2019 and Closes November 4, 2019

Entrance requirements include:

  • Be admitted to the university, have all transcripts of file with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. If you completed your Foreign Language requirements in high school, you are required to send official high school transcripts to UWF Office of Admissions.
  • Nursing pre-requisites cannot be older than ten years old.
  • Minimum 3.0 Overall GPA. Transfer student should know that all attempts on courses taken at other school are included in your GPA calculation.
  • ATI TEAS (sixth edition) - Minimum 75.0% Composite Score 
    • We DO NOT accept the TEAS version 5 for Allied Health

Additional Consideration is given by the selection committee for any or all of the following optional recommended items if completed by the posted deadline. Transcripts must be uploaded to NursingCAS to be considered at time of application.

  • Complete HSC 3555 Pathophysiology minimum 3000 level with a grade of C or higher
  • Complete both PSY 2012 General Psychology and SYG 2000 Introduction to Sociology with grades of C or higher
  • Complete HSC 3535 Medical Terminology minimum 3000 level with a grade of C or higher
  • Complete 60 hours as a volunteer or paid employment in a healthcare setting. Must be within one year of application deadline. (upload as part of the nursing application in NursingCAS if considering this option)

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO TRANSFER STUDENTS

Transfer students are encouraged to start your university admission application prior to the deadline for the nursing supplemental application. The admission process, transcript evaluation and decision can take up to 6 weeks. To be considered for the BSN program, you have to be admitted to the UWF by the deadline.

The progression of study according to the curriculum plan is:

Semester 1 – Junior semester 1 - 15 credit hours
Semester 2 – Junior semester 2 - 16 credit hours
Semester 3 – Senior semester 1 - 15 credit hours
Semester 4 – Senior semester 2 - 16 credit hours
