Student Accessibility Resources
Student Accessibility Resources, a department within the division of Student Affairs, is pleased to provide information regarding services available to assist students with disabilities at the University of West Florida.
Student Accessibility Resources (formerly known as Student Disability Resource Center) views disabilities as an aspect of diversity that is integral to society and to our UWF community. We are committed to the full inclusion of students with disabilities in all curricular and co-curricular opportunities as mandated by Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and Americans with Disabilities Act. We work collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff to provide reasonable accommodations for students with documented disabilities. We acknowledge that classroom and campus accessibility needs and considerations are expanding as more classes and campus experiences incorporate online and technological components. We are available to discuss any course or campus barriers that may be preventing access to education and an equitable campus experience for our students.
SAR offers a variety of accommodations and services for students with documented disabilities including learning disabilities, deaf/hard of hearing, blind/low vision, mobility limitations, ADHD, psychiatric and medical conditions. Some of the accommodations and services provided by Student Accessibility Resources include:
- Sign language interpreting
- Note-taking services
- Testing accommodations
- Campus orientation
- JAWS Screen Reader
- Livescribe Smartpen
- Other accommodations as appropriate based on documentation
It is the student’s responsibility to request disability-related services and accommodations through the UWF Student Accessibility Resources office. The UWF Emerald Coast SAR contact is Tom Schwingle. He may be reached at 850.863.6584 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
