Chemistry Research

The Department strongly encourages student participation in our growing summer research program. This program provides students with the opportunity to work 25-40 hours per week in the research lab of a faculty mentor. These fellowship opportunities are typically funded by individual faculty research grants, UWF undergraduate research grants, or the generous support of the UWF Chemistry Alumni.

Faculty Research

For interested students, the Chemistry Department encourages participation in individual chemical investigations carried out under the supervision of a faculty member. Initially, students are directly supervised and trained by a faculty mentor, but the transfer of knowledge and skill sets are only part of the experience. It is anticipated by the conclusion of their works, students will begin to synthesize their knowledge and research results to develop adequate conclusions and initiate new questions for inquiry. Undergraduate research can be used to fulfill coursework requirements as well.

Please contact any Chemistry faculty member to discuss your potential involvement in an ongoing research project. Currently, the Department offers research opportunities in the following areas:

  • Analytical Chemistry
  • Biochemistry
  • Inorganic Chemistry
  • Organic Chemistry
  • Physical Chemistry
  • Polymer Chemistry
  • Supramolecular Chemistry
  • Molecular Modeling
  • Spectroscopy
