Optional Conference Activities

SWAMP BOAT TOUR, Saturday afternoon, October 11. This two-hour boat tour, located about 12 miles southwest of the French Quarter of New Orleans, ventures into the swamps of Barataria, which are considered to be the crown jewel of the Louisiana Purchase. From the relaxed slow drift of the tour boat, you will see the wildlife and the vegetation of this region and historical sites, including a 2,000-year-old Indian burial mound, a Cajun cemetery, the Fleming plantation home, and the trading post of Barataria. While traveling along the waterways that are the roads and highways of this region, you will see the camps and boats of alligator hunters. Pickup at the hotel between 12:30 pm and 1:00 pm; return to hotel approximately 4:45pm. Cost: $34/person.
